The SME Technology Development Council was initiated by SME Chamber of India to provide a platform for small and medium enterprises to tap opportunities for acquisition of technology and establishing business collaboration on a global level.

SMEs play a pivotal role in the success of the Indian economy due to their ability to exploit new technologies and to respond quickly to changing market needs. Due to SMEs' limited resources and relative inability to absorb the costs and risks associated with in-house technology development, they must often utilise the process of technology transfer to take advantage of the benefits gained by technology and innovation.
